Sourdough!

From the Masterchef magazine, it was super easy and it was beyond delicious, sour, chewy, crunchy and everything in between.

Today

Today the sun is shining
Today the birds are singing
Today a very dear friend said goodbye to her gorgeous, precious boy
Today friends and family shed tears for a mother, father, sister and family
Today I lit a candle for them
Today I wished I could take away their pain
Today little Avery was lifted up on his angel wings
Today all my love, prayers, thoughts and hugs are with Kristie, Ally and Tara.

You can find more tributes to the darling, gorgeous Avery here

Whoopie !!!!!!!!!!!!

For a few reasons.

I've been eyeing them off for awhile and thought hmm, just looks like a cupcake without the shape. Well I guess they are, but crispy top and bottom, not just the top like a cupcake. Recipes are similar from what I can see. Getting them nice and round, no so easy :(

But back on track - it's the littlest misses 5th birthday today and we spent all morning running about doing jobs and posting parcels and looking for a helmet that didn't come with countless accessories or cost an arm and a leg, so time ran away with me.

K's first request was a BIG CAKE like Sarah's lol! But in rainbow colours of course, purple, pink, yellow urgh and orange double urgh! Time as above was against me, so I headed towards the whoopie pie. Cake and pretty and most importantly QUICK!

So I used this recipe but from the googling I did it seems the recipes are all pretty similar. It did taste good as batter, but I'm wondering if mine were a little thick, hence the odd shapes that appeared here and there. I sandwiched mine with vanilla buttercream, rolled the edges in hundreds and thousands and a dusting of icing sugar.

They were very goooooooooooooooooooooooddd!! And yes I'll probably make them again, thinking pumpkin next time.

But of course back to the day at hand - the birthday girl. Wearing above said helmet - Disney princesses to go with the Tinkerbelle Scooter that Sarah got her - it has 3 wheels.

And then the dress sigh! Very bright, not my normal style and whilst Katherine picked the fabrics and helped me cut it out (trust me not a good idea) it went together okay, there are a few things I'd change but I'll make another one and fill you in then. Made it colours that don't do it for me that's for sure, but it's hers that is all that matters.

It's an Olive Ann pattern both that and fabrics were procured from Funky Fabrix :)

Rainbows!

Well the littlest cherub loves her bright and rainbow colours, so her birthday is Monday, but since she only has Kindy later in the week, we had Happy Birthday at Kindy on Friday.

The request was rainbow coloured cupcakes. Now my week has been less than stellar, and I was fast running out of time. So it was my go to vanilla cupcake recipe with a few additions.

Rainbow sprinkles into the batter

Pink, Blue and Green Buttercream with more of the rainbow sprinkles.

I did apologise in advance to the Kindy Teacher - as I normally try and use natural food colours, but they wouldn't give me the colours we wanted, so we went with the hard core stuff.

Kindy Teacher said 10 minutes after the cake, they were running around madly and she had planned an indoor day - luckily I can easily placate her with more cupcakes :D

You should have seen the kids eyes pop when we walked in with these little beauties!!

Our gorgeous kindy teacher Linda - who Katherine told me - said your Mummy makes the BEST cupcakes she's ever tasted, which cheered me up, after my shocker week. Linda you are the most awesome Kindy teacher ever, such joy and life and love to your teaching!!

And do you recognise the cardigan?? It was made from Oleria by Tikki - size 3 with 5 length - Katherine is tall but slender. And the gorgeous wool - dyed by my lovely friend Susannah from Parrot Pants - it's lush. This the cardy that I kniited when I was laid up for nearly a week - I've barely had time to pick up a set of needles since.

And her gorgeous pettiskirt, and huggalugs that I found via a customer who posted on my wall - thank you thank you!! Katherine loves them so much. I think she's going to be a little fasionista that's for sure!!

Not quite sure what she has planned for me to make on Monday her actual birthday! But guessing it involves yellow and purple!

Swapity Swap Swap!!

Well thanks to the lovely Miss Claire over at Tigernaut, I joined in The Contemporary Handmade Alliance Swap.

I got the loveliest swappee - Lindy from Ragged Blossom she makes beautiful mineral makeup which I have never tried, so I was absolutely delighted. The colours were just spot on to what I would use as well.

These are the little beauties I received, all packaged up beautifully with little bows and everything, things pacakaged up well really make my day :) I love pressies! (sorry lindy I can't take photos to do your makeup justice)

I sent Lindy a Boho Baguette from Studio Kat Designs Made up in black and white with a touch of red. The beads did my head in - next time *remember* to get beads with bigger holes, thankfully Amy came to the rescue. I did find the pattern easy to follow, no hiccups, since I was naughty and left things to the midnight hour ....... literally, that's what happens when you have visitors, surprise stockings and sick kids though. Seems I can sew at midnight lol!!

This is suppose to be the back of the bag but I like it much better as the front, it has a wee zip, and a cheeky inner red pocket.

A photo of the whole side of the bag.

The cheeky beads that had me frustrated. They were glass.

This is suppose to be the front, but next time, I'll split it I think, or embroidery it. Actually I have some gorgeous fabric from Mandy, might be able to use that!!!!!

The cheeky red pocket.

More of the dreaded beads.

The inner pocket, it holds a phone and the other pocket is for doo dads lol!!

If I make the bag again - which I probably will, I liked the size and it had long handles for over my shoulder, I'd probably add another zipped pocket or use one of the bag inserts you can buy for these patterns (you have to make it though). Might have to think how to make the bag with a zippered top, I don't think it would be too hard, as I like my bags to zip closed, so nothing falls out.

Sneaky Smurfs

Well we had a sneaky smurf stocking over at Gossamer Dreams last night, lots of work, but also lots of fun. Here are some of the goodies that I put up for sale!

A little clutch in lime smurfs with lime check, I used a pattern by Keyka Lou.

Modkid Sophie pants, with a matching top, love the smurfy kick pleats.

Newborn smurfy set
