Birthday Gift

Katherine had her first birthday party yesterday, and she was mega excited. She was adamant that Daddy just drop her off and leave her lol! So we checked with the mama and that was fine, plus we live like 2 minutes away.

So we made little Georgia an art folder, it was inspired by some crafty mamas who made some, though I made it to fit the art block, or so I thought but not quite, but it's all good and the birthday girl by all reports loved it.

It was made with mushroom fabric from Crafty mamas along with the ribbon and lots of other fabrics from stash.

Baking

Well my health has been less than stellar, which is so what I don't need, so baking has been on the back burner for ages and ages, but I promised the kids I would, so we decided scones for morning tea, cause Shane is off leaf blowing at the kindy. So he'll come home to some warm scones with yummy strawberry jam and cream.

And then Amy and Iain made pikelets as well, William after scoffing scones decided he wanted piglets and I told him, he was big enough to get his own, and so this was the result, a pile of jam as big as the pikelet lol and a mass of butter.

Strawberries

A slightly belated birthday gift for a cute little 6yo girl, who loves strawberries and twirling.

The skirt is a Favourite Things pattern, I do love this skirt. With a purchased tshirt, jazzed up with some appliqué.

Hopefully it can also double as a Christmas outfit, given the colours.

Caterpillars

These little ones are off to a newbie. It's an Otto pattern, can't say I was a fan, I changed quite a few things as I went, I think I would like to make it again, now that I know what I would change. It's navy denim with the Eric Carle caterpillar prints as trim, and some wee embroidered ones to boot.

Cake!

My gorgeous, wonderful sister bought me this book for my birthday in August.

It has some super yummy recipes in it.

So far my favourite is the Blueberry and Soured Cream Loaf. It's dense but not too sweet, keeps for ages and tastes divine!! Perfect with some icing sugar and cream, or delightful on it's own.

It's an easy cake to memorise as well.

190g each of butter, sugar and plain flour, 3 eggs, 1 tsp baking powder 25ml of sour cream. I ditch the salt cause I use salted butter and I add some vanilla extra and a wee bit more liquid in the form of more sour cream or light milk. It makes quite a thick batter.

Now you can follow the cream the butter and sugar thingy as usual but I found it still works okay as an all in together mix. What I've been doing lately is cream the butter/sugar, add the eggs and vanilla and then stir in the flour and liquids. Then at the very end before putting it into a loaf tin is stir through a goodly portion of blueberries, I used frozen as I'm trying to clear our the freezer, but you can use any berries you like. The do tend to sink to the bottom but you can try coating them in flour first or mixing some through and them putting some on the top and that should distribute them better.

But as Miss K doesn't like the blueberries it works well here, I cut a slice she eats the top and leaves the scrummy blueberries on the bottom for moi!

And yes this is all that is left after making it yesterday - well there are 7 people who live here and I had a lovely visitor drop by as well.

Smurfalicious!!

I've fallen down badly on the Blogtoberfest sigh! But I promise I'm going to be good from now on.

I made this sweet little smurf dumpling yesterday, isn't she cute as a button! I'm thinking I'll be making lots of these as little gifts in the coming months.

Following the awesome tutorial from Keyka Lou

It was quite easy, eventhough I didn't have a 14 inch zip, mine was much longer, in the right colour, so I marked the end with the zip stop as per instructions and just let the rest hang off the other end as they both get trimmed anyways.

Camp Autism Charity Auction

The lovely Shona from Funky Fabrix, has organised a charity auction raising funds for Camp Autism.

This little number is for a mama in need of a bit of cheering up.

It's vintage Popeye fabric, which I found through my fabric trawls around online.

It's a Pocket on cobalt minky and a matching little tshirt.

If you are in need of a bit of a cheer up and would like to purchase a similar set, you can choose minky colour and size, just leave a comment, making sure i can contact you.

This size 2 set retails at $50. I'll cover the cost of regular postage to you (Australian residents only)

I'll leave comments open till Tuesday night and email the slot winner on Wednesday.

PS  As a lovely mama suggested not everyone needs nappies anymore.  So your set can be top/shorts or top/skirt.

The Winner of the Popeye Slot was Sarah Hollands! You have 24 hours to claim your slot.
