Farbenmix Izzy

So westerly winds in May?  Freezing cold ergo need winter clothes for everyone as children have grown out of theirs and well my wardrobe is pretty much non-existant, you know mums we just make do.

So anyways Farbenmix Izzy was the plan - I ditched the pockets, didn't really do anything for me and well they hold dirt and stuff and K doesn't use them.

I made the 122/128 which I thought might be a bit large when I traced, but over other clothes, it has room for this year and hopefully next.  I also lost the button closure, looked wrong and I did turned cuffs rather than stretch ones in ribbing, but i might add them next year if the sleeves are a bit short.

Lined with stash knit.  Remember to cut a right and wrong side of the asymetrical fronts (cause I didn't lol)

I used divine Malden Mills Velvet fleece for the outer and kept it simple, just using some sweet red riding hood embroideries - the one on the back is care of the gorgeous Sara who did some for me last year before I scored the embroidery machine and the ones of the front I did today.

It went together reasonably well with only a minor unpick as I forgot to leave seam allowance at the next edge on the lefthand side for the zip. I only had a mega long separating zipper in black (which lead to a few choice swear words when I pulled the zipper pull off, but Shane to the rescue with that)

And yes the glazed look would be a whole stick of fairy floss at the fair down the road, and the threat of no fireworks if she didn't comply with photos.

Needless to say I think we'll be using the coat when we trudge back over the hill to watch said fireworks tonight, the wind is wicked.

Make it Work Challenge Week 4

Oops forgot to post about it.

This week's theme is something for the 'Home' and 'Ombre'  so of course i had to dye didn't I.  I had thought about this weeks challenge awhile ago, but left things as usual to the weekend.  After dyeing 3 lots of fabric in Ombre shades, I went with the turquoise, I wanted the Robin's Egg Blue that i tinted ever so slightly green, but the gradients weren't enough of a difference.

Anyways lots of ruffles and gorgeous blue and this gorgeous cushion has gone to live with a lovely mama!!

If you'd like to vote for me -you can go HERE.

And keep an eye on the blog for next week's entry as I'm giving her away to one lucky person.  You will have to answer a question to win.  She's bright and funky and fun and perfect for a 'Paper' 'Party'

Make It Work Challenge Week 3

This week's challenge we were asked to create something 'for him' with the theme being upcycled or recycled.

So I set to work with some old tshirts of Shane's that were a bit past their use by date around the neck and armholes.  And using the gorgeous Nicole M's Fedora pattern set to work.  The tshirting provided somewhat of a challenge, and due to adjustments, the hat that was suppose to be for Shane, turned into a hat for William.

But it turned out great, and i'm headed off to find some wool fabric to make another one for Shane.

If you'd like to vote for me - you can go HERE

Thank you for all the votes last week, I won - the week 2 challenge with my smocked cross over pinnie.

Fedora

As some of you know I've been taking part in this 'Make it Work Challenge'  - Shane thought it would extend me to enter every week lol!!  (I'm stoked to report I've won Week 1 and Week 2 )

Yes well it's done that for sure.

I had plans in my head for week 1, 2 and 4 and 6 - but 3 and 5 had proved a bit more of a challenge to me.

The plan hit for week 3 - I'll upcycle some of Shane's shirts into a hat, he has some that are past their use by date around the neckline, underarms etc, the fabric for the shirts themselves are more than usable and he has a few that I would like see relegated to the NOT to wear pile anymore.   So toddled off and purchased the Nicole M Fedora Hat pattern.  A friend and I had discussed the pattern many moons ago as I do so love me a good Fedora lol!!

So I set to work, thinking I can interface the heck out of the tshirt fabric and it 'should work' right?  Ummm not so much, I bought some heavy weight interfacing, but forgot to ask and wasn't provided with attaching instructions and you know how i have a love/hate relationship with my iron, well it was hate at first sight with this interfacing and it refused to play ball - I don't think it likes steam, so it was pretty well stuffed, no more at hand, a deadline looming, so bring out the trusty 505 basting spray and pellon and set to work.

Nicole's patterns are beyond AWESOME, well written, lots of markings on the pattern sheet, simply divine.  Lots of other designers really should take note, cause well alot of them leave alot to be desired and that's saying it nicely lol!!

So cutting up a Canne Film Festival Tshirt for the outer, and a Nipple Cripple Two for Twenty Two for the inner.  It pays to really read the pattern - cause oops forgot I needed bias - stash dive to something a bit funky - multi coloured flames it is.  I must admit to a bit of 'what the' when it came to joining the bias.  I do it all the time, but my head and hand would not engage at the same time, so it wasn't as neat as I wanted.

As I said the pattern went together really well - yes there was a teensy bit of unpicking and I mean teensy - less than 10 minutes I'd say which is pretty good for a hat, let me tell you, they are notoriously obtuse.

All in all I think it turned out fab.  Admittedly it was destined for Shane's head, but adding the pellon means it is now for William and I'm off to find some nice wool to make one for Shane.  Tshirting really isn't what you want to be using for a spunky Fedora, it doesn't hold it's shape, no matter how much you steam the sucker, but William is chuffed with it, despite appearances.

So anyways, if you've read this far and are inspired to make your own because of my post, you can also pop on over HERE and VOTE for me ;)

Violetta

Margo made this gorgeous Violetta, hand dyed from stella in a shibori pattern in what I'd call denim blue.

It's perfect.  Perfect size, perfect feel just perfect, I've worn it to death since she handed it over and I've ordered another one for Mum and Amy.

Please excuse the need for a haircut and that's what happens when you wash your hair before bed hair lol!!

And then cause my baby sister was down, we had to visit the gorgeous Curly Jo at Southbank and of course ice-cream and chocolate for the Scotts.

Small cherubs choice of the day Berry Delicious Sundae

Emily went with the Peppemint Chocolate and Liz the waffles, I made her get two, well cause I knew someone would want to share ......... Ben.
